A new high endurance single cell NAND flash memory device for SSDs has been developed by a collaboration between Samsung Electronics and Sun Microsystems. Ideal for 24/7 mission-critical computing, the device supposedly offers an endurance level higher than those in the market, offering an increase in write and erase data cycles by five times the norm. Comparing it with traditional drives, data transfers per watt are reportedly increased by 100 times, reducing cases of overheating as well as your cooling bills. Of course, those are just marketing drivel, it remains to be seen whether real world performance is as touted.
